Your comment about fish sauce being ubiquitous even in so-called vegetarian dishes is one of the banes of attempting to dine at Thai restaurants as a veg. Many places will simply omit it, but some don't really get the concept and will further chastise you that it "won't taste right." I'm sure it won't "taste right", but a Big Mac without the burger also doesn't "taste right." :) There exists a "vegetarian fish sauce" which I've been meaning to get a hold of. Not sure how much it helps in the "taste right" department, though. Sounds tasty. Then drivers approaching can turn right on red. They don't understand why a bike should block them when it's so easy to stop on the side rather that the middle of the road. Choose your battles!
